The Maple Ridge Client’s Prep & Recovery Checklist for Microneedling Treatments

September 29, 2026 Microneedling

Whether you are looking to smooth persistent acne scars, minimize enlarged pores, or soften fine lines around your eyes, microneedling – also known as collagen induction therapy – is one of the most effective medical aesthetic treatments available today. For residents in Maple Ridge and the Ridge Meadows area, it offers a proven way to restore firmness and radiance by harnessing your skin’s natural healing power.

However, the key to achieving pristine results and glowing skin doesn’t just depend on the treatment itself – it relies heavily on how well you prepare beforehand and care for your skin afterward.

At Derma Clear Laser, we emphasize complete client care from start to finish. Here is your essential preparation and recovery checklist to ensure a comfortable, seamless microneedling treatment experience.

Phase 1: The 2-Minute Pre-Treatment Self-Audit

Before booking your appointment, perform this quick candidate checklist to ensure your skin is in optimal condition for treatment:

1. Active Breakouts & Inflammation

Microneedling should not be performed directly over active cystic acne, cold sores, or open skin lesions. Gliding the microneedling device across infected skin can spread bacteria. Ensure your skin is clear of active breakouts before your session.

2. Recent Tanning & Sun Exposure

Even a mild sunburn or recent heavy sun exposure increases skin sensitivity and inflammation. Your skin should be at its baseline tone without active redness or sun irritation.

3. Medical & Supplement Audit

If you take blood-thinning medications or supplements like fish oil, high-dose Vitamin E, or anti-inflammatory drugs, discuss these with your aesthetician during consultation, as they can increase post-treatment bruising.

Phase 2: The Action-First Preparation Checklist

Following a precise pre-care routine builds up your skin barrier and prevents unnecessary irritation during your treatment session:

7 Days Before Treatment: Discontinue the use of active skincare ingredients, including retinoids (Retin-A, retinol, tretinoin), glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and harsh physical exfoliants.

3 Days Before Treatment: Avoid wax treatments, depilatory creams, shaving, or chemical peels on the targeted treatment area.

24 Hours Before Treatment: Drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin cells and avoid alcohol, which can dehydrate skin and increase sensitivity.

What Happens During Your Microneedling Session

Understanding the clinical process ensures you feel relaxed and confident in the treatment chair.

During your microneedling treatment in Maple Ridge:

• Topical Numbing: A prescription-strength numbing cream is applied for 20 to 30 minutes, making the procedure virtually painless.

• Precision Micro-Needling: A sterile, medical-grade pen creates thousands of microscopic channels in the upper dermis.
• Active Serum Absorption: Hyaluronic acid or growth-factor serums are applied directly during the session, penetrating deep through the open micro-channels for maximum absorption.

Phase 3: The 72-Hour Post-Treatment Recovery Sequence

How you care for your skin immediately following your session determines how quickly your skin recovers and how bright your final glow will be.

1. First 24 Hours: Pure Protection:

Do not wash your face or apply makeup or active skincare for at least 12 to 24 hours. Wash gently with tepid water and a mild cleanser only when instructed, and apply provided hyaluronic acid serum to keep skin hydrated.

2. Days 2 to 3: Soothing & Sun Shielding:

Your skin will feel warm and look like a mild sunburn. Apply gentle, restorative barrier creams and non-comedogenic mineral SPF 30+ daily. Avoid direct sunlight, heavy workouts, steam rooms, and hot showers.

3. Days 4 to 7: Natural Renewal & Flaking:

Mild skin tightness or light flaking may occur as fresh skin cells rise to the surface. Never pick or scratch dry skin. Keep applying hydrating moisturizers until flaking subsides naturally.

4. Week 2 Onward: Reintroducing Actives:

Gradually reintroduce gentle active skincare products like Vitamin C or mild retinoids once all tightness and redness have completely resolved.

Recovery Quick-Rules:

• NO Makeup or Sweating: Avoid makeup and heavy exercise for 24–48 hours to keep micro-channels clean.
• NO Picking or Scrubbing: Let dead skin cells shed on their own to prevent hyperpigmentation.
• ALWAYS Wear Mineral SPF: Fresh skin cells are extremely susceptible to UV damage – apply mineral sunblock generously every morning.
